The swim The water is currently 18 degrees and getting warmer. Swimmers will start at 30 second intervals with a limit of 5 or 6 swimmers in each lane. You must be present at the swim start at the start of your wave for a final briefing. You will be told 30 seconds and 15 seconds before you are due to start, it is up to you when you get in the water but you will not be allowed to get in more than 30 seconds before your start time in case this impedes other swimmers NO DIVING IS ALLOWED. There will be two lanes divided down the centre of the pool, one lane will be clockwise the other anticlockwise so that swimmers will swim in the same direction down the centre of the pool to avoid collisions. It is strongly recommended that you wear goggles during the swim. Please keep to the outside of your lane unless you are overtaking. If you require assistance during the swim move to the side of the pool, there will be a lifeguard on duty. You should count the number of lengths yourself, this will be checked, but it is your responsibility to ensure you have swum the required distance. A swim float or similar sign will be shown to you when you have two lengths left to complete the swim. When you have completed the swim leave the pool at the steps and keep to the outside edge of the pool. Leave your swim hat at the side of the pool and make your way to the transition area. Your time will be recorded as you leave the pool area, please call out your number, it will be written on your hand.

The run It is up to you what you wear for the run section, all competitors must wear a running top with their number pinned to the front in all four corners (pin you number on before you start the swim!). The more you wear the longer you will be in the transition area, this will add to your total race time. Most triathletes run in their swimming costumes with a vest or T shirt over the top, socks, and shorts are up to you, whatever makes you feel more comfortable. You should wear any additional clothing over the top of your swimming costume, you will be too occupied with the race to notice the wet bits! It is advisable to lay out a small towel to stand on when putting on your top, it helps dry your feet before you put on socks (optional) and running shoes. The run will be approximately 2Km for the juniors and 5Km for adults. The junior course will be within the grounds of Middlesex University and will be fully marshalled, competitors will be in view of a marshal at all times during the race. The adult course will follow the Handicap with a small diversion to and from the pool, please watch out for the signs. Both finishes will be adjacent to the transition areas.
